Multi-Tasking My Month Away

Ever find yourself multi-tasking? I am a huge culprit of this, especially at Christmas.  We are trying to accomplish #allthethings. We are trying to shop, go to parties, wrap, fulfill traditions, and don’t forget the Christmas movies and drinking Hot Chocolate.

Multi-tasking sounds like the only way to get it all done, but do we really accomplish what we want to accomplish? For me, it’s I can’t really focus on making memories and have joy if I’m are doing two, three, or um, four things at once. Something always gets dropped. When I choose to multi-task, I am CHOOSING to be constantly distracted. I am choosing to go nuts. Brains were not meant to jump from one thing to another. In the end, we gain nothing but confusion and stress. And for what? To have a perfect meal that takes10 minutes to eat? To give presents people might return?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas and all the things that come with it. What I don’t love is the stress that I put on myself to get it all done and make it perfect. So, for the next month, I’m picking 5 of my most important things and focusing on those. I will multi-task less and be present more! If I get those 5 things done, then I will move on to the next couple of things. My five things are:

1.    Read through the Christmas story for the next 25 days.

2.    Do a Christmas YouVersion plan with the girls.

3.    Buy gifts and wrap.

4.    Once a week, pick a Christmas outing to do with the girls.

5.    Plan the menu and shop for Christmas food and for our vacation the week after Christmas.

My goal is that by Christmas, the most important things will have gotten done, memories will be made, and I will have enjoyed all, ok, most, of it. I believe my brain will be less anxious, not so exhausted, and I will be ready to connect with the family!

  Your Turn…

Anybody want to join me in multi-tasking less?! I know it won’t be easy. Distractions will happen. But if we know what is most important to us, we can say no easier or re-evaluate and change things around with a little less stress.

If you want to join me, I would love to hear your top 5 things!
